“I
HEAR MUSIC IN MY HEAD” “There have been times when I
could not sleep because a lyric or a melody would be in my head” These
are the words of singer-songwriter T.J. Brown. T.J. says this has
been going on since the age of five.“I would be in my room
making up a melody with complete lyrics and harmonies and turn it
over in my head” T.J. says.
Born as Tanya Jenine Brown and
raised in Chicago IL, T.J. went through much of her adult life not
taking her talent too seriously. I knew I could sing,” she
says, “But I felt much more comfortable singing at weddings,
church, or being a session singer in the studio."
A local producer,
and now one of her best friends Darell “DEE BEST” Bester
gave her a deeply spiritual and moving song called “Dreamin” that
changed her outlook on things. “I figured I was always happy
in the company of music, in everything I do…music has to be
involved. However, it has not been easy and there have been a
lot of rough times, but T.J. finally believes her day has come.
On
her debut CD “LOVE’S DESIGN” there is a combination
of slow melodic love making tunes with deep lyrical content. In “LOVE’S
DESIGN” the title track, T.J. expresses her desire to be “taken
away to another space and time” which brings about the crazy,
euphoric feeling of being in love.
In “WHY U WANNA LEAVE ME?” T.J.
tells the story of a woman doing everything for her man but still
loses him anyway…Then there’s the street vibe of “GET
OUT” , a song with harsh undertones that tells the tale of
a woman stating: “Enough is Enough”.
“I write totally
from experience because that is the only true way I can express myself
through my art” she says. “Every stage I have gone through,
every love-feeling, whether it’s craziness, sadness, or happiness
has left an affect on me.”
These are true with the other joints
on the CD as well. Be it soft, melodic, or hypnotic, for every aspect
of these songs, for every aspect of love there is an “effect” a “LOVE’S
DESIGN".
So get ready to wrap your ears around music therapy
for the heart.
