Perry aka "DM" was born in St. Louis Missouri aka (STL) on
August 1st. Having moved across the river to E.St.Louis, Illinois aka
(ESL), Ms. Perry endured her fair share of what she calls "gutter
living".
Due to her parents divorce, she had to shuffle back and
forth from the city lifestyle of STL to the raw gutterness of ESL. To
seperate herself from her environment she says that she used to write
poetry to find refuge. She would also dabble at writing songs & rap
lyrics but didn't think twice about being a recording artist - she just
thought she found another ordinary outlet to release her artistry.
However,
she does admit that she has written raps for her and her girlfriends
and she would call up the local radio station to showcase her downplayed
talents. After graduating high school - she immediately moved to Honolulu,
Hawaii - where she studied computer science. Feeling unfulfilled, she
then moved to San Francisco to get a taste of the Golden State's Bay
area. Eventually she moved to Oakland where she became the entertainment
host for a local cable/internet television station.
While an Oakland
resident, she began networking with local talents such as San
Quinn, D-Shot (of E*40's group), Money B (of Digital Underground),
Proof (of D 12 - she befriended while in Miami) and countless other artists. Through
their success she was able to be exposed to the 'celebrity side of life'
and get a dose of what the spotlight demanded once you hit it big.
After
numerous solicitations regarding her to pursue an acting and musical
career, Ms. Perry buckled down and took serious notes on what she needed
to learn about the entertainment business. She decided to move from the
Bay Area to Hollywood to go for the bigger picture.
Once in Hollywood
she quickly got an acting agent and had special appearances on television
shows such as The Hughley's - UPN, Ex-Treme Dating
- UPN and an Television
HBO mini-series, If These Walls Could Talk 2 - starring Ellen
DeGeneres.
After receiving her SAG, she decided to step away from the acting realm
to go to college for TV & Film.
While in acting class one of her
classmates over heard her singing & rapping and urgerd her to contact
a producer friend of his - in which she says the music magic began instantly.
She rapped, co-wrote and arranged her very first
song entitled 'Jitters' and submitted it for a national promo hosted
by Magic Johnson, BET & COCA
COLA. She was selected out of a national selection to perform her song.
She says that being an ametuer and to be chosen out of a nationwide
search made her feel extremely honored and humbled that her very first
recording got her a little industry recognition. This most definetly
gave her the confidence to pursue the music world with out any doubts.
She has since performed at numerous venues such as The
Lions Den -
for a MillerLite sponsored event, The Hollywood
Park Casino and many
other night clubs within the LA metropolitan area. To her credits she
has also written a theme song for a DVD home-movie video release of 'The
Watermelon Heist' starring John Amos (of Good
Times, All About The Anderson's, The West Wing). The musical track for
'The Watermelon Heist' was produced by OJI Pierce (of Montell Jordan's
- This Is How We Do It, Loose Ends - No More Shopping Sprees).
She has
colloborated musically with artists such as actor Omar
Gooding (of The Gospel, Baby Boy, USPN's Playmakers, The Smart Guy-etc...),
Top Dogg and Da Realist - both formally of Tha
Row Records/Deathrow Records. Producers:
Mr. Myc of Private Moments Productions (also her Photographer/Web Page
Designer), Morris Dickerson Jr. of Da Lab, Darry
McCloud, Efrain Saldana, Daniel Reecchia of NorthStar and Rob Lowe.
With countless recordings under her belt - this seasoned vet
says that she is ready to serve the world her musical artistry. With
multi-talents, Perry "dM" Rainz has super-star quailities flowing
through her veins and oozing out of her pores.
