Boe
Skagz & Tay Nati
A tale of two cities: two rappers, one story! No
matter where you’re from, if you live how they live, you get
it… not just Cincinnati and New York City, but “Guttaville!” The
uniqueness of a pair of rappers hailing from different hoods meshed
as one to give you a universally received sound. Unbeknownst
to each other, both set out on the same path at the same time traveling
across the country to Los Angeles, CA to continue their grind and
reach their dreams of being heard worldwide.
In a matter of months of each arriving in the West,
they met, they meshed and they recorded together. The chemistry was
undeniable, Boe Skagz & Tay Nati’s first cut together, “Guttaville”,
was heard and immediately placed as the first track on the “Waist
Deep” movie soundtrack.
Boe Skagz, born Rodney Jones, grew up in Hollis, Queens,
N.Y. It was inevitable that the young and impressionable Boe
Skagz would one day join the hip-hop world of music with his uncle
and father figure being the legendary Jam Master Jay. He knew entertaining
was the path for him having been surrounded by music from the beginning. Having
a mentor such as Jay in his life enabled him to hone in on his writing
and performance skills.
He was given the opportunity to perform and record
songs with the likes of Jay O Felony, Onyx, and 50 Cent, among others.
Skagz’s talent immediately caught the ears and eyes of record
industry executives and within weeks of completing his own recordings
as one half of the group, Rusty Waters, had a deal with a major recording
company. Album done, video shot and tour bus ready to go, the
fast growing momentum was put to a halt when Boe’s world was
torn apart in a day with the unfortunate and untimely murder of his
uncle and mentor, Jam Master Jay.
The tour bus never took off; however, Boe Skagz did! California
bound and a mission to complete, the grind continued at a feverish
pace, writing 5 to 6 songs a day, tearing up rap battles in the West,
even claiming championship at the underground hot spot, The Pit.
With nobody to turn to in this new world, Skagz’s rap skills
alone earned him recording time in the studio where he met his soon
to be partner in the game…
Tamas Houston, better known as the young Tay Nati,
is on the short list of rappers coming out of Cincinnati. Growing
up in a single parent home with three brothers and two sisters didn’t
make life easy especially when his youngest sister was diagnosed
with cancer. With the extra strain on his family, he and his
siblings ended up scattered across the city and at times homeless.
This led to Tay Nati having to make his way on his
own from the time his was 13, ending up in and out of jail at an
early age. At 17, the still young but now wiser, Tay Nati,
found work at an upscale hotel where he had the opportunity to meet
many successful rappers. Taking every opportunity to shine,
Tay Nati rocked the mic at all the local spots he could find and
spit his verses to all those who would listen.
He knew music was his life’s destiny after all
who heard what he had to say, including those already successful
rappers, encouraged him to pursue a career in the rap industry. Determined
to make it happen, Tay Nati bought a one-way ticket to Los Angeles!
Set out on a blind path across the country with no friends, family
or contacts, and just his will to succeed. He hit the streets
of California in pursuit of his dream and worked his way into the
recording studios where he eventually met Boe Skagz.
The rest is history in the making. The rap game
will never be the same. A combination of style and swagger
never seen before, CIN/NYC, Boe Skagz & Tay Nati connected the
dots to a universal sound. It’s not just where you’re
from it’s how you live. The album, “Get It… How
I Live” coming soon! Check the streets for the mix CD!
