J
- You've been through a lot over the past few years, how has this
helped you grow as an Artist?
Well ever since being retained as a
youth I'm still struggling now days, it's helped me in a positive
way to reach out in my music to put my feelings to a beat and let
every listener feel my pain and struggles.
By people feeling me, my music as I continue to write about my
life helps me forget the past, what I'm facing and what I go through
by letting my pain bleed out on the page as I write every thing
Ive been through and faced, by that it has helped me strive to
become an artist and hopefully live big one day.
Sounds true to the word, as far as the future
- do you feel you're taking the necessary steps to accomplish your
goals?
I feel I'm doing a lot to accomplish
what I'm working towards but in a way I know I can do more
to help me reach my goal but money is an issue. Ive always
had a lack of finance and there for I cant do all what
I want but for not being financially stable. I'm
doing my best that I can to get there.
Looks like you're on the right track J. So,
you are constantly writing new material? How much of what you write
actually makes it onto a track?
I'm always writing new material, everyday
if I can. Most of my rhymes make it to tracks but some is still
left unsaid. I feel some of my lines I write are to personal and
feel people shouldn't know about, because honestly nobody wants
to hear how broke someone is.
Record labels now days want to hear
that the artist makes money, but in some circumstances some of
the hottest artist don't have money or the finer things in life.
Like you said, it is about the money often
times. It's game time for you man. Who are some of your inspirations
in the hip-hop world? And have you followed their careers to see
how they've been able to break through?
On the real I've followed inspirations
such as EMINEM because I feel me and him relate in a lot of ways,He
has struggled, never had lots of money and most of all never let
his race let him down. Same as me.
Also I follow FABOLOUS because
he is my all time favorite rapper and he is underrated but I feel
what he says and follow his lead.
You've already talked about the hard times,
flip the script on us J, what are some of the things you want to
do in life, not speaking musically?
jLitusk* That's a good question! I want to have
a normal life like others. Since I never had all the "family" times
I want to start a family and give my kids and wife a life I never
had. Have a nice house and money to where I'm able to buy nice
things and support my loved ones.
I want to be able to visit places
I never been and be able to treat myself to things I have never
had. I want to be able to actually go to a restaurant and pay for
food without no problem, instead of scrounging up a dollar to hit
the dollar menu at McDonald's.
Well, you're definitely not new to writing
your own lyrics, what about the beats you use for your songs. Are
you making the beats? If not, how are you obtaining beats with
little or no funding?
I'm
not making my beats, no. However, I do buy like $.99 beats off
soundclick and I have a guy in Silver Spring, Md who makes some
beats for me. I soon to try and obtain money to hit a real studio
and have professional beats.
In your opinion, who is the premier beat
maker in the game right now?
DRE without a doubt. Hands down the
dude is a genius and knows what he is doing. Would like to work
with him one day.
J, you have a fan base! We know you are on
your grind, out there campaigning and promoting yourself. Are you
finding it easy to get this done? Are you finding that people are
willing to help you, and can you tell who's really your fan, and
who's trying to go along for the free ride? It will be a free ride
once you get that deal!
Actually I put my music out to a very
few people and just by them few people I gained a big fan base
just from word of mouth. I developed quickly and rapidly due to
myspace and other people.
I don't think there are any people down
for a free ride because everyone knows they wont get nothing from
me unless they helped me through my struggles in the past. However
I do create a good relationship with my fan base and try to give
them free Cd's when possible.
But yes I find it very easy to promoting
myself because all I have to do is post a few bulletins then my
fans do the rest. Guess I got that good music that everyone can
feel and vibe and/or been in similar situations as me such as from
being locked up to having girl problems to having one you love.
And how has your experience been since you've
joined SM? What feedback have you had about the theme song you wrote?
Honestly, my experience since I joined
streetmusiq has been the best. I get a lot of feedback on my songs,
good and bad, and that's exactly what I need to improve.
I've created
a great relationship with the owners and associates and even other
artist. I've won a few battles and lost one but that's how the
game goes. You can't win everything but its worth trying for.
It
actually made me work harder towards my music and develop a great
taste everyone loves. As far as the theme song, Ive got great feedback
on that and people love it. Also, I love knowing that I was a part
of one of the greatest movements that's going on.
SHOUT TO ALL
