Don't
call it a comeback. 57Fake is not your ordinary brand. Founder Donavan
Asher of 57Fake, the prized urban sportswear brand is the result
of perseverance and good old American guts and creativity. Working
on promotional campaigns for DreamWorks SKG and Universal Records.
His savvy street promotions vaulted up-and-coming artist into the
spotlight and they realized that they could harness the same power
for himself.
As he promoted on the streets, a brand was born. The "57Fake",
named for a football play became his moniker for those who
dodged reality and put fronts up to replace their lack of integrity.
As Asher say's I'd see someone who I'm supposed to hook up a business
deal and nothing would come out of it. You know the types who can't
make up their minds. We call the "57Fake". The term became
a constant reminder to keep things real and follow through on promises
made.
Asher then turned his passion for the street trends and marketing
to create the line from the ground up. Asher's voracious appetite
for the latest street threads and keen radar for spotting what people
want to wear made him unstoppable. He scanned the market for color
trends in sneakers and created the match.
Then started promoting his own brand, using the same techniques
he had already mastered, bringing the initial t-shirt designs to
non-traditional venues as barbershops and salons. It was an
immediate hit, he dressed rappers and rising stars in his designs.
The demand exploded with an unstoppable crew brought in $100,000
the first year.
57Fake has been sported by countless musical artist including Dr.
Dre and Snoop Dog, among other high profile celebrities and movies
such as Barber Shop I and II and Biker Boyz, 57Fake is seen where
the heat is.
After two years of local success, a Japanese buyer spotted 57Fake,
placed a large order and was soon back for more. The brand has achieved
cult status in Japan, where American street culture and lowriders
have been woven into the local youth scene. Say's Asher. "Japan
has really jumped on his line as the hottest underground brand available.
Where Los Angeles leads, Japanese culture likes to follow."
